Transport
infrastructure in Malaysia has been growing at a phenomenal rate. This has
essentially been in the form of roads in new residential, industrial and
commercial developments. In addition, numerous townships have mushroomed and
these have had to be comprehensively planned in terms of road and rail
transport, transport terminals, bus routes, taxi stands, parking, pedestrian
network and of late bicycle networks.
Existing
cities and townships have also been affected in terms of demand for
transport. This has resulted in traffic congestion in the cities, huge demand
for bus services which cannot be met adequately . All this have had to be
addressed, and major transport studies and implementation work has taken place
in the last few years.
